The Wall Street Journal‘s “The Future of Everything” podcast aims to examine how science and technology are revolutionizing the world as we know it. In this episode, host Jennifer Strong looks at how rapid technological change overlays on global urbanization patterns to not only change cities, but make them more likely to play host to future conflict. But as military forces are increasingly pulled into dense urban areas, cities themselves will pose unique challenges. What should the US military be doing to ensure that it both understands those challenges and is prepared to overcome them?

Strong visited West Point, where MWI organized for her to observe cadets conducting training. She also spoke to Maj. Jake Miraldi, MWI’s executive officer, and retired Maj. John Spencer, MWI’s Chair of Urban Warfare Studies. Both are featured in the episode, a must-listen for anybody interested in cities as operating environments.
