On April 1, the Modern War Institute at West Point hosted Brig. Gen. Pat Work as he addressed the principles of mission command. As the Army transitions from counterinsurgency to large-scale combat operations, decentralized execution of orders is of vital importance on the modern battlefield. To be successful in complex operating environments, commanders and subordinates must build a relationship centered on the seven principles of mission command.
