On 1 November 2023, The Modern War Institute at West Point (MWI) hosted a panel discussion about the Hamas-Israel. MWI regularly hosts panel discussions related to contemporary military conflicts as part of our mission to generate new knowledge for the Profession of Arms. This panel of expert academics and military professionals offered a concise yet wide-ranging exploration of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, and its implications for US national security. Diving deep into the historical underpinnings, contemporary dynamics, and potential pathways to resolution, expert panelists provided valuable insights into this enduring geopolitical challenge. The discussion focused on modern warfare by examining the actions of relevant international actors, humanitarian consequences, and prospects for peace. By fostering a deeper understanding of the conflict, the panel aimed to promote informed discourse and critical analysis of its impact on the Middle East and global affairs and to serve as an intellectual resource for future military leaders and national-level policy makers.
