Nonresident Fellow
Michael A. Robinson is an active-duty US Army strategist and former infantry officer with service in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans. He is a former assistant professor of international affairs at the United States Military Academy, where he was the recipient of the William F. Murdy Award for teaching excellence (2018), directing courses in international relations and political methodology. He is a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations, a selectee for the Johns Hopkins National Security Scholars and Practitioners Program (2020), and a Nonresident Fellow at the Modern War Institute at West Point. His research on US and comparative civil-military relations has been published in Armed Forces & Society and Orbis, and has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, War on the Rocks, and CBS News, among others. He holds a PhD and MA in political science from Stanford University and a BS in international relations from the United States Military Academy.
