The Modern War Institute at West Point was honored to host MG Mick Ryan, Australian Army, on 25 April 2025 to discuss emerging trends in modern warfare. At the event, MG Ryan provided insights from his recent battlefield visits and discussions with field commanders from conflicts in Ukraine and Israel to include how unmanned systems are reshaping the modern battlefield in those conflicts. He also participated in a question and answer period with West Point cadets from the US and allied nations.
MG Ryan retired from active duty as the commanding general of the Australian National Defence College after spending 35 years in the Australian Army commanding soldiers at the troop, squadron, regiment, task force, and brigade levels. He served in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan as well as on the US joint staff and continues to serve as a reservist in the Australian Army.
The MWI Speaker Series is made possible through the support of the West Point Class of 1982.
