He is an analyst with the Center for Naval Analyses where he is a member of the Russia Studies Program. He is also an adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, specializing in Russian unmanned military systems and artificial intelligence. His work involves research on Russian defense and technology developments as well as Russian military capabilities and decision making during crises.
In the conversation, Mr. Bendett discusses his work tracking Russian technological advancements. He also describes various unmanned aerial and ground vehicles Russia is experimenting with for urban combat and explains how lessons learned from Russia’s recent experiences fighting in Syria are impacting Russian force development—lessons that have influenced the way it has conducted operations during the war in Ukraine.
