The Army Heritage Center Foundation recently hosted MWI’s Tim Heck, Walker Mills, and Dr. Kate Dahlstrand of Army University Press for a talk on the origins, purpose, and results of their recent work, Armies in Retreat: Chaos, Cohesion, and Consequences. The subject of retreat is all but taboo in United States military doctrine. In their edited volume, Mills and Heck seek to balance the historical and practical narrative, giving listeners a better understanding of why, how, and when armies retreat and explore what to expect when the unexpected happens.
The presentation was streamed online and remarks were followed with a period of question and answer with the audience.
